From STRuggling to pay school fees to Running a Sucessful business – Benard Mwale

My name is Benard Mwale, and I come from Mwalilia in Luangwa District under Chief Mburuma. I am a businessman, and my main business is trading goats. I started back in 2004 with only K180. That money was supposed to be part of my school fees, but since it wasn’t enough to cover the balance, I had no choice but to drop out of school in Grade 11. Instead of giving up, I decided to use that little money as capital. It wasn’t easy at all—I faced financial challenges along the way—but I kept pushing, and slowly my capital grew.

In 2019, when UMINO opened its Luangwa branch in Chitope, I applied for a loan of K8,262. Within three days, I received the loan. With that support, I managed to order a good number of goats, and when I sold them, I made a huge profit. From then on, my business began to grow steadily, thanks to the continuous financial support from UMINO.

By 2024, I had achieved things I never imagined when I first started. I bought three residential plots, which I have already begun developing. I also bought a taxi and started a transportation business. My business has allowed me to sponsor my children in school, something I am very proud of. In February 2025, I bought another vehicle to expand my transport operations even further.

UMINO has played a big role in helping me reach this far. I am humbled to have had the privilege of accessing loans at low interest rates, with quick responses and the best customer care services. Looking ahead, I hope to access more funds from UMINO so that I can buy my own Canter truck to transport goats to delivery and selling points.

To anyone running a business and struggling with financial challenges, I say this: all roads lead to UMINO. Their support has been the backbone of my success, and I am truly grateful for everything they have done for me.
